Thibault Cauvin was born with a guitar in his hands, given by his father, himself a musician. And he followed the natural path from then on. He first studied at the Bordeaux Conservatoire and later at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur, graduating with honors. Quite playful, he became passionate about international competitions, the only springboard for an artist who wants to make a career. Widely acclaimed for his youth, passion and creativity, he wouldn’t stop winning prizes and aged 20, he had won a total of 36 prizes (13 first prizes) – more than any guitar player. He got more and more concert engagements. The world wanted to hear the young lord of the six strings.

Thibault has been touring extensively for 15 years now, playing in the most prestigious halls in the world. Virtually 120 countries, 1000 solo concerts with this unique guitar stirring the New York Carnegie Hall, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Hall, the Shanghai Concert Hall, the London Queen Elizabeth Hall, etc… As he loves very special musical moments, Thibault proposed outside of his regular concerts, a « Magic Tour ». This series of performances in symbolic, atypical and magic places began at the Eiffel Tower in 2017 and has already halted at the Beijing Forbidden City, the Hague Peace Palace, the Quito ruins in Ecuador, the Marrakech palm grove, the Royal Great Beach for more than 40 000 people…

sm-Thibault CAUVIN ©FrankLoriou _4Thibault’s universal playing and graceful personality charmed and bring together all audiences. The specialized critics as well as the most popular medias are unanimously seduced by the “Cauvin Phenomenon”. A classical musician has rarely been seen in the French media as much as he is  — Quotidien by Yann Barthès, Entrée Libre by Claire Chazal, Stupéfiant by Léa Salamé, Alcaline on France 2, Les Victoires de la Musique Classique on France 3, etc… France Musique even highlighted him for a full day. The young lord of the strings has grown up and his dream to move people’s heart seems to come true.

In September 2018, Sony Music releases “Cities II”, Thibault’s tenth album. After having presented discs on renown classical composers such as Scarlatti, Albéniz or, more recently, Vivaldi, recorded with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris at the Philharmonie de Paris, Thibault offers now a very personal project, opened on other musical styles. Using various pieces written in collaboration with composers encountered along his “endless tour”, he pays homage to twelve world class cities that inspired and fascinated him. An album evoking wanderings and dreams, made by unexpected and vulnerable duets with musicians coming from different musical worlds, united by the poetry of the voyage: Erik Truffaz, Ballaké Sissoko, Matthieu Chedid, Didier Lockwood, Lea Desandre, Thylacine, Christian-Pierre La Marca, and Adélaïde Ferrière. Recorded at the mystical Château d’Hérouville which re-opened its doors especially for the occasion after 15 years of silence, this album has a very unique flavor…

Thibault is also the official spokesperson for French Blood Donation Day, he was named “Ambassadeur de Bordeaux”, he is the patron of the “Paris Guitar Foundation”, and as a passionate surfer, he is sponsored by Billabong. The sky is the limit for Thibault and his guitar. His inspired, expressive and natural playing can only please all types of audiences across generations and abolish boundaries. As he plays the guitar – a both popular and erudite instrument which is pretty new to classical music in comparison to others – it is likely to become a queen among musical instruments in the 21st century…

Thibault Cauvin is the one and only guitarist to have won 36 prizes in major international guitar competitions.
